Supporting the Heart

of Rural Communities

The Rural Heart Foundation was founded in 2025 by Rocky View County farmer Larry Woolliams with one simple but powerful vision to:

Help Create Healthier, Stronger Rural Communities.

As a lifelong farmer and passionate community advocate, Larry recognized the growing challenges rural residents and farmers face when it comes to accessing mental and physical healthcare support. The Rural Heart Foundation was created to help bridge those gaps through research, innovation, partnerships, and community-driven initiatives.

Today, the foundation proudly supports projects and programs focused on improving healthcare accessibility and wellness opportunities for rural Rocky View County residents and the agricultural community.

Through the support of donors, sponsors, volunteers, and community partners, the Rural Heart Foundation is already making a meaningful impact — and we are only just getting started.

Our Story

The Rural Heart Foundation began through the success of the annual Woolliams Farms Ltd. Charity Golf Classic, founded by Larry Woolliams to raise funds for rural healthcare initiatives and research.

Funds raised from the very first tournament helped purchase a Promobot Telemedicine Robot for the Airdrie Health Foundation, helping improve healthcare accessibility for local residents.

Since then, tournament proceeds have continued to support innovative healthcare projects, including a partnership with the University of Alberta Rehab Robotics Lab to conduct research focused on improving mental and physical healthcare accessibility for rural Rocky View County residents and farmers.

That partnership helped launch a groundbreaking initiative called From The Ground Up — a project designed to better understand and support the unique healthcare needs of rural communities.

Most recently, funds from the Woolliams Farms Ltd. Charity Golf Classic helped support the launch of an AgWell AB counselling initiative in April 2026, offering five free counselling sessions to farmers in Rocky View County. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, with multiple farmers utilizing the program within the first month alone.

The Rural Heart Foundation exists to support mental and physical healthcare research, accessibility, and wellness initiatives for rural Rocky View County residents and the agricultural community.

We believe healthy rural communities are essential to the future of agriculture, families, and local economies.
